London (May, 1891) - pp.62-3   Kelly's Directory, 1891 Previous Page Next Page Village Links BRUSHFIELD is a township in the parish of Bakewell, annexed to Taddington for ecclesiastical purposes, 5 miles from Tideswell, 3 south from Millers' Dale station on the Derby and Manchester section of the Midland railway, and 5½ west-north-west from Bakewell, in the Western division of the county, hundred of High Peak, Bakewell union, petty sessional division and county court district ; it consists of four farmhouses only, and is situated between ridges of hills. There is a footpath north of the hill, which leads to Tideswell by Litton Mills, and one to Monsal Dale station. The Duke of Devonshire is lord of the manor and entire landowner. The are is 655 acres ; rateable value £1,163 ; the polulation in 1881 was 31. The chief crops are turnips, oats and most of the land is pasture.
