Adjoining Riber Castle is a Free Methodist chapel, built by the late John Smedley. Riber Castle, the residence of Mrs. Smedley, is an imposing structure of local stone, situated on the brow of the hill, 860 feet above sea level, and commands most extensive views. Riber Hall, now occupied as a farm house, is a building of considerable antiquity. On Riber Hill formerly stood a number of large masses of gritstone, supposed to have been the remains of a druidical altar.
