The pedigree below is one of a number handwritten by Thomas N. Ince
of Wirksworth, a local solicitor, who produced many such pedigrees
for families in the towns and villages around Wirksworth in the early
to mid nineteenth century.
Known as the Ince pedigrees, the collection is held by Derby Local
Studies Library.
To assist those researching the family of Nuttall of Matlock there
is some additional information included lower down this page. |

Derby LSL Reference: 8022 p 163
In 1830 George NUTTALL supplied the basis of the avove pedigree
to Thomas Ince. After George NUTTALL had died either Thomas Ince
or his clerk added his death and that of his relative John NUTTALL
to the pedigree. Having spent some considerable time researching
this family I would make the following observations.1
- The children and descendants of John NUTTALL (son of Thomas
NUTTALL alias Dale) and Elizabeth ROUSE are correct, though the
children are not in order of birth.
- James NUTTALL (son of Thomas NUTTALL alias Dale) had children:
- Samuel (died as child)
- Rebecca
- James
- Samuel
- Hannah (died as child)
- Thomas
- John
- John, son of James, did not die in France in 1856.
- Thomas NUTTALL (son of Thomas NUTTALL alias Dale) had children:
- William
- John, Elizabeth, Elizabeth (all three died as infants),
- Hannah
- Thomas
- The sons of Thomas are slightly misleading. Thomas seems
to have married twice. George, William and Samuel are sons
from his second marriage. The John who died in France in
April 1856 was the son of Thomas's son, William
