The Rutland Arms and Fairview Terrace

The Rutland Arms and Masson Mill

Woodbank and Arkwright's Mason Mill, a coloured picture showing the view from Harp Edge that was probably taken shortly after John Edward Lawton, the builder of this grand house, and his family had left Matlock Bath.

The house enjoys a beautiful view across the Derwent Valley to Cat Tor. In the valley below Woodbank can be seen the cluster of houses on the main road that included Fairview Terrace and the Rutland Arms public house. Some of those properties disappeared when the road was widened.

The card was sent to L (Louis?) Pearson Esq c/o Mrs Pearson of Southport. Part of the message was:

"Please save this P.C."

The previous card, Woodbank, later Cromford Court, has much more information about both the house and the Lawton family
